YouTube to Block Videos for Users with Ad Blockers

YouTube is taking a strong stand against ad blocker extensions. The site is telling people worldwide to either watch ads or think about joining YouTube Premium. This news comes from Christopher Lawton, who works on YouTube’s communications team.

If you use an ad blocker on YouTube, you might see this message: “Video playback is blocked unless YouTube is allowlisted or the ad blocker is disabled.” It means you have to let ads play or try YouTube Premium. Now, YouTube is blocking videos more often for those who use ad blockers.

YouTube Ad blocker message

YouTube started testing video blocking for ad blocker users globally in June. With more people reporting this issue recently, YouTube has expanded this test.

Lawton says ad blockers are against YouTube’s rules. Ads help many creators around the world and let billions watch free content on YouTube.

This year, YouTube began using 30-second ads you can’t skip on its TV app. It also tried fewer but longer ad breaks on TV.

YouTube plans to keep fighting ad blockers and may get tougher on this in the future. Actually, the company wants people to sign up for the YouTube Premium plan which does not play any ads.
