Apple Introduces New Repair State Option with iOS 17.5 Update

Apple is planning to introduce a new feature in iPhones with iOS 17.5 called “Repair State”. This new feature lets you send the iPhone for a service or we can say to the service center without turning off or deactivating Find My and the Activation Lock.

Recently, we saw the 4th developer beta of iOS 17.5, in which Apple has added a new option “Remove This Device” for all devices in Find My Device. By using it with an iPhone, it puts the iPhone into the Repair State, a new feature added to the iPhone after the 4th Beta of iOS 17.5.

Till now, if we send our iPhone for a repair, then it requires turning off Find My, and Apple says that they won’t be able to repair these iPhone devices in which Find My is activated and if you turn off Find My, then it will disable Activation Lock. As we know, Activation Lock is an important anti-theft security feature that prevents your iPhone from being used with a different Apple ID.

As far as I know, the “Remove This Device” option from Find My to enable a repair state is only available in iPhones. Using this feature on other Apple devices such as the Apple Watch or a Mac will give you a warning that the feature will remove the device from the ‌Apple ID‌ account and after that, it can be used by someone else. This feature will be available with iOS 17.5 stable, this month i.e. May. Also, as of now, the feature is still in development.

Note: ‌The iPhone‌ must be online and trackable through ‌Find My‌ for the repair state option to pop up. Also, do keep in mind that currently, the repair state can’t be disabled.
