A few weeks back, Xiaomi announced their independent operating system, the HyperOS based on the Xiaomi Vela. The Vela is very much like the AOSP software. The newly released OS wasn’t very much different from the MIUI, but some notable performance and fluidity improvements were surely reported.
The purpose of creating HyperOS was not to revamp the software of MIUI or Xiaomi smartphones but to provide a new foundation for them. The Xiaomi Vela serves this purpose well. It has recently been disclosed that Xiaomi has made the open-source system code of Xiaomi Vela available to their developers.
Xiaomi Vela Open-source System
In their recent partner conference in China, Xiaomi announced their open-source Xiaomi Vela platform. This one follows the Apache 2.0 open-source protocol. According to the brand, Vela would be an independent open-source platform that would continue to serve as the base for the recently announced HyperOS.
The Xiaomi Vela can be used with a variety of products with varying hardware specifications. The smallest system requires only 8KB of memory, has no CPU frequency limitations, is adaptable to any SoC multi-core architecture, and supports flexible deployment. The brand has really worked to make the platform flexible with as many systems as possible.
Vela also supports lightweight end-side AI large models as well as lightweight container solutions to address MCU security issues via triple isolation. It also includes the Vela interconnection framework, which is similar to Hyper Connect in that it allows native access to the Xiaomi IoT ecosystem. It supports cross-device fast application frameworks for applications, allowing a single development to run on multiple devices.
