Finally, WhatsApp has added the option to easily share original-quality media as files. Earlier, it was a difficult task for iOS users; first, they had to go to files to create a document for an image or video and then send it as the document, but with the latest update, WhatsApp has added an option to send original files as documents by directly selecting them from the Photos or Files app. The file size limit is up to 2 GB, and multiple images and videos can be sent as documents simultaneously.

Now whenever you send any file, image, or video by tapping the ‘+’ icon and selecting Document to share, you get this pop-up (image-1) to choose from Photo/Video or files to send as a document.

Photos and videos are sent in HEIC format to get higher quality and lower size, which is the default photo storage format for iOS devices.

This was a much-required feature other chatting apps like Telegram have had it for years and WhatsApp was missing it. Although this feature is currently only available on iOS and not on Android.

Other features added with this update are as follows:

  • Start voice chats without ringing in large groups
  • New bubbles in chat to help you see missed, ongoing, and completed calls.
  • Quickly react to a status using your avatar but simply Tapping on “Reply” and select one of the 6 avatar reactions.

This update brings high-quality media transfer to WhatsApp for iOS, which is a major update along with some new features for voice chats, quick reactions to status, and visual changes to call bubble UI.
