Personal Safety is an app by Google that provides various safety and SOS features to quickly connect to help in an emergency. It provides alerts about nearby crises, safety checks, and real-time location sharing and status in case of emergency. It helps you quickly connect with the help and information you need.
Recently, the app got an update with some visual changes and some feature additions for specific areas and devices that are made by Google. The update size was 4.22 MB and the update version is 2023.10.12.580307358.release_gms.
What’s new with this update?
The Personal Safety page of the app has a new design with quick toggles for Emergency Location sharing, an emergency number at the top, and a tab for safety checks. The bottom toolbar design is also revised with buttons for home, features, and your info. Earlier there were two big toggles for Safety Check and Emergency Sharing at the bottom and all other features were in the settings menu.
Emergency SOS has now added a confirmation step before enabling emergency actions, which allows you to get help in an emergency by pressing the power button quickly five times and then touching and holding the circle for 3 seconds to confirm and enable the emergency actions which gives you the option to
- Call emergency services at any number you choose
- Share your location and critical info with your emergency contacts.
- Record, back up, and share a video.
There is a toggle to add this confirmation step for Touch and hold the circle for 3 seconds before starting the actions, or directly start emergency actions after pressing the power button five times.
Car Crash Detection has been made available in Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Portugal, and India but only for Pixel smartphones. This feature helps to get help in calling emergency services after a car crash.
Lots of safety and emergency features have been added to the Pixel watch such as Fall Detection, Emergency SOS, Emergency Sharing, Safety Check, and more.
- Fall Detection enables your watch to call for help when it detects a hard fall.
- Emergency SOS feature allows you to call emergency services or an emergency contact by quickly pressing the crown five times.
- Emergency sharing allows you to share your real-time location and critical info with your emergency contacts through Google Assistant.
- Safety Check sets a check-in timer for your phone to confirm you’re safe. f you don’t respond when the timer runs out, Emergency Sharing automatically starts.
This was a huge update for the Personal safety app as it brings improvements to safety and emergency features, extends support for various features to different regions of the world, has a newly designed UI for the app, and has a whole list of emergency and safety features for the Pixel watch.
