Nothing has made its Nothing Wallpaper app publicly available for Phone (2) users from today. Currently, the Phone (2) is running on Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 2, based on Android 14. The app is now available with an update that fixes the bug of wallpaper crashing when the blur feature is enabled.
The app version for this update is 1.0.2 and the size is 4.25 MB. The app info in the Play Store also shows 10,000+ downloads.
Prior to this app, the company used to release new wallpapers along with the OS updates, which made adding wallpapers and new features less frequent. So, the company has decided to add new wallpapers and features through the app updates on the Play Store, which can be pushed more frequently and seamlessly rather than binding them with OS updates.
In the latest Q3 community update Bruno Viegas, Software Design Head at Nothing stated that they are now leveraging the Google Play Store for widget updates through the Nothing Widgets App which means that they will be rolled out more frequently instead of being tied to the normal OS update schedule. A similar scheme is being followed for the wallpaper and wallpaper features with this new Nothing Wallpaper App.
This app also includes some unique wallpaper effects for Nothing OS, like the Glass Filter effects which makes vertical lines on the wallpaper with some glass effect that looks amazing.
An Atmosphere filter is also listed in the App images on the Play Store, which is currently unavailable but it’s meant to smoothly transition your wallpaper from lock to home screen with sleek animations, elevating your home screen to a cleaner and more elegant look Although the Atmosphere requires using the same wallpaper to seamlessly transition between Lock & Home Screen. Basically, it’s going to transition from a clear lock screen to a blurred home screen with a sleek animation, as we can see in the Play Store app images.
Currently, we have 20 unique Nothing Styled wallpapers with Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 2, but we can expect Nothing to release new wallpapers and new features like the Atmosphere filter with the next update to the Nothing Wallpaper app. Right now, the app is only available for Nothing Phone (2) users and will be made available to all Phone (1) and Phone (2) users with stable Android 14 update.
