Apple to officially bring RCS message support on iPhones next year!

RCS, short for Rich Communication Services, is a communication protocol that was developed to replace the traditional Short Message Service (SMS) messaging system on mobile devices.

RCS offers a more advanced and feature-rich messaging experience by incorporating capabilities similar to those found in popular messaging apps such as WhatsApp and iMessage. With RCS, users can enjoy enhanced messaging features such as group chat, read receipts, high-quality media sharing, and real-time typing indicators.

RCS cross-platform messaging is finally coming to Apple iPhones

Previously, the RCS message was only available on Android smartphones. Apple wished to remain uninvolved in all of this. They chose to continue using iMessage. But that does not appear to last long, as they have now announced that they will begin using the RCS messaging service on iPhones next year.

“Later next year, we will be adding support for RCS Universal Profile, the standard as currently published by the GSM Association. We believe RCS Universal Profile will offer a better interoperability experience when compared to SMS or MMS. This will work alongside iMessage, which will continue to be the best and most secure messaging experience for Apple users.”

RCS is planning to introduce a number of iMessage-like features to enable cross-platform messaging between iPhones and Android devices. Read receipts, typing indicators, high-quality image and video sharing, location sharing, and other features are included.
