Microsoft officially closed the Windows 11 free upgrade channel

It has been a healthy time since Microsoft released its newest Windows 11 operating system in the market. Almost all the eligible PCs and Windows devices have been update by now. But, some devices weren’t compatible with Windows 11 because of the higher system requirements.

Although, there were some unofficial methods and workarounds to update and install Windows 11 on older PCs. There was an official way to free upgrade to Windows 11 as well. But in the latest reports, it has been made clear that Microsoft has closed the free upgrade channel, and the users who updated to Windows 11 previously for free are getting affected!

Windows 11 now asks for activation key on hardware change

Following the release of this announcement, many users reported that they had lost their system activation status after replacing computer parts or updating BIOS. Furthermore, the digital license associated with their Microsoft account can no longer be used to activate the operating system, forcing them to purchase another key or use another method of activation. Microsoft support has confirmed that replacing hardware should not render key activation ineffective.

In response, the principal product manager for Windows, told The Verge that the company is aware of the problem and is working on a solution: “Microsoft is aware of these user reports and is investigating.” Users who are having technical problems should contact Customer Service.” Microsoft has confirmed that they are working on the issue. All the affected users are advised to continue using their Windows 11 without purchasing another activation key.
