Google has been constantly adding or doing changes to its Android operating system in order to improve the overall user experience. Google altered the way we interact with app icons on our phone screens. Previously, holding down an app icon on Android 13 would display recent notifications for that app. But that has been removed in Android 14. Instead, if you hold down an app icon, you’ll see options like quick shortcuts, app information, the ability to pause it, and widgets.

This change may not immediately catch your attention, but it quietly shifts how people handle and view notifications. Previously, if you had a large number of notifications, you could quickly check out the ones for a specific app from the home screen. This was extremely useful for people who get a lot of notifications and prefer to deal with them one app at a time.

People’s reactions to the change have been chaotic. Some people rarely used the long-press feature to check notifications; instead, they relied on the notification tray. On the other hand, some people really liked it and now want it back. Since Android 14 was released on Pixel devices, there have been over a hundred new comments from users requesting that this feature be reinstated.
