Carl Pei tweet confirms Nothing Phone (2a) launch in 2024

Recently, Carl Pei the CEO and co-founder of Nothing tweeted a post on New Year’s day that hints at a new Nothing smartphone which is possibly the Phone (2a). His post says ‘New Year New Me New Phone’ is a unique pattern and an image that is an outline of a Pokémon character.

The dotted outline of the Pokémon shared by Carl is Aerodactyl which is at #142 in the Pokedex. This might be a hint to the model number A142 of the expected Phone (2a) which was listed on BIS Certification few months ago.

Nothing has used a similar Pokémon reference with Phone (1) and Phone (2) as Abra and Alakazam which were also the easter eggs, to enable the music visualization feature. Phone (1) model number is A063 and Abra is #63 in the Pokedex and similarly, Phone (2) model number is A065 which is a reference to Alakazam whose Pokedex is #65. Aerodactyl is a Pokémon that is faster and stronger than Abra, which also signifies that Phone (2a) will be faster and have better performance than Phone (1).

Nothing Phone (2a) is rumored to have a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1084 x 2412px. Phone (2a) will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC which is an octa-core processor. It is expected to feature a 50MP dual rear camera setup, and 16MP center punch hole selfie camera, 4920 mAh battery and Nothing OS 2.5 based on Android 14 out of the box.

From the leaked renders and the 3D model created by some users, we can clearly suggest that Phone (2a) will have a circular three Glyph light setup with dual cameras aligned horizontally in the center of the back. Phone (2a) is expected to be launched in two color variants – white and black and four storage and RAM variants.

A few days ago, we also got some leaks of the official wallpapers of the Phone (2a) and rumors that it might launch at the MWC 2024. Also, the Nothing Phone (2a) is expected to start under €400 (roughly Rs 36,813) in the European Union. Carl’s tweet might be the first official hint to Nothing Phone (2a) and we may get to know more about it in the coming days.
