OnePlus is all set for the grand launch of its 2024 flagship termed “OnePlus 12.” The launch event is happening in China on December 5th. Our excitement is increasing every day as we get closer to the launch. The brand has also started doing its pre-launch formalities by teasing the devices and hyping them. In its latest announcement, OnePlus has confirmed the color variants of its forthcoming smartphone.
The official teaser not only reveals the color options of the device but also reveals the complete design and look of the OnePlus 12. If we look closer, we can notice that the right-hand side frame of the device doesn’t have any Alert Slider. The brand has chosen to reposition this button to left-hand side of the device and it is visible in the shared images as well.
I don’t think this change matters much as long as they are providing the alert slider and not removing it, unlike they did in the past with some OnePlus smartphones. Further, this change is reportedly because the brand has added new antenna bands on the right-hand side frame which helps deliver improved network performance and latency during games.
Here’s what the official statement from OnePlus reads:
Based on internal testing, it has been determined that the optimal position for gaming antennas is between the forefingers of the user when the phone is held in landscape orientation. However, the space is currently occupied by the Alert Slider on the OnePlus 11. By relocating the Alert Slider to the opposite side of the phone, better gaming antennas can be deployed on the OnePlus 12.
The repositioning of the Alert Slider presents a challenge in ensuring optimal antenna signal strength on the same side of the phone. To tackle this issue, OnePlus utilizes Ultra-compact Full-band Antenna technology and industry-first Alert Slider Antenna Integration technology to minimize the space occupied by the Alert Slider to the greatest extent possible. As a result, a balance between better antenna signal performance and the presence of the Alert Slider is achieved on the OnePlus 12. According to the lab test data by OnePlus, the gaming antenna signal can be improved by 3dB, with the game latency reduced by 15%.
If we look into the color options and overall look, there aren’t any major changes when compared with the predecessor. However, the color variants added do look very funky and set it apart from the “plain league” that previous OnePlus devices used to follow.
