Apple Reportedly Developing Custom Image Signal Processor (ISP) for iPhones

Apple is allegedly emerging with its own Image Signal Processor (ISP) to progress the camera features for iPhones. This was reported by a Chinese tipster who says Apple is evaluating on its own ISP design. This self-made chip by Apple is expected to enter an extensive market by the end of 2026 and will be assembled by TSMC.

For people who have no idea, the ISP plays an important part in smartphone photography.
It analyzes the raw image information taken by the sensor of the camera and makes the image of the highest quality by conducting different tasks.

These tasks cover a range of image enhancements such as high dynamic range (HDR) optimization, balancing light exposure, refining image clarity, reducing visual noise and grain, adjusting color balance, correcting any lens-related warps, among other improvements.

Recently, Apple has depended on ISPs made by Sony for its iPhones. Anyhow, with self self-designed ISP, Apple will have more of control on the imaging pipeline and can advance especially for its own products.

Apple is famous for its precise approach to hardware production, so the new ISP is to be expected as a precious path for its camera technology. There is no official confirmation about this from the company yet, so don’t take this seriously.
