Samsung SDI and Volvo Gear Up for Electric Future with Expanded Battery Partnership

Samsung SDI (Samsung Digital Interface) is a South Korean battery and electronic materials manufacturer that makes batteries for Volvo. Both Samsung and Volvo have been working together since 2018 and now are celebrating 5 years of partnership. In the last few months, Samsung has started supplying EV battery cells to Volvo for their electric trucks.

Samsung SDI and Volvo 5th anniversary partnership

Samsung’s 21700 high-nickel cylindrical battery cells consist of 28,000 battery cells used in Volvo’s FM Electric truck (announced previous year). Recently, the CEO and President of Volvo visited Samsung SDI’s battery plant in Cheonan, where they announced that both companies would collaborate on serious EV technologies. It also comprises energy systems and construction equipment.

The upcoming Volvo trucks and buses also come with Samsung batteries. We can say the future plan of Volvo is to go electric by 2040. Samsung plays an important role in completing this goal as Volvo needs a lot of batteries for this goal.
