OnePlus has rolled out the November update for the OnePlus Nord 3, which seems to be laying the groundwork for the highly anticipated OxygenOS 15. The update, while substantial in size at nearly 800MB, brings limited changes visible to users, apart from the inclusion of the November 2024 security patch.
What’s New in This Update?
- Security Patch Update: The update includes the latest Android security patch for November 2024.
- App Optimization Feature: A new app optimization process is introduced, similar to what’s expected in OxygenOS 15. After installing the update, users will notice a pop-up requiring all apps to be optimized, promising improved performance and battery life.
- No OxygenOS 14.1: OnePlus has opted to skip releasing OxygenOS 14.1 for the Nord 3, indicating that the next update might directly bring Android 15 with OxygenOS 15.
Performance Observations
Initial benchmarks show mixed results. While CPU throttling has improved compared to the previous build, gaming performance has taken a significant hit:
- CPU Throttling: Stability improved from 64% to 82%.
- Gaming Issues: The Nord 3, known for its decent gaming performance, struggled during testing. In games like BGMI, the FPS dropped drastically from 90 FPS to 46 FPS, rendering the gameplay choppy and unresponsive. Additionally, the device overheated, reaching temperatures above 53°C, even in a cool environment.
- Benchmarks: Scores in apps like Geekbench and Antutu were slightly lower than previous versions, although Wild Life Extreme Test stability improved.
OnePlus is expected to release closed beta builds of OxygenOS 15 next month. Users are hopeful that these updates will address the current issues, including overheating and poor gaming performance.
