In a recent behind-the-scenes video, the team at Nothing opened up about the Power (1), a highly anticipated 3-in-1 portable charger that was never launched. The device was sleek, pocket-sized, and loaded with features, boasting 65W fast charging, wireless charging, and it could also charge laptops and phones.
Why was Nothing Power (1) not launched?
Carl Pei who is the CEO of Nothing company, talked about its backstory. He shared that while Nothing had big ambitions with a small team, Nothing Power (1) was designed to be innovative and revolutionary. After the success of their Ear (1) wireless earbuds, Power (1) was the next product. But as Carl mentioned, it turned out to be more challenging than anticipated. Durability was their main concern. The beautiful transparent housing was prone to cracking easily, and with the team’s commitment to product durability, it didn’t pass their rigorous testing standards.
Another problem they faced was managing the thermals. The charging speeds they wanted to achieve caused overheating, particularly with the combination of wired and wireless charging. Given that safety is paramount with battery products, resolving these issues would have required significant time and re-engineering.
Finally, the Nothing team decided to stop this project after investing so much time, effort, and money, which is undoubtedly tough. So this was a back story about Nothing Power (1) and the company faced many challenges along with highs and lows. The company is always trying its best to make the next product better for their users.
