The Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Plus are set to bring some exciting changes, according to recent reports. Following the success of the Nothing Phone (2a) series, which featured MediaTek chipsets, their successors are rumored to switch to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processors.
Clues supporting this move were discovered in the latest Nothing OS 3.0 builds based on Android 15. The Phone (3a) is codenamed “asteroids,” while the Phone (3a) Plus is called “asteroids_plus,” hinting at a connected development.
Additionally, the budget-friendly CMF Phone 2, expected in 2025, will reportedly retain a MediaTek chipset and carries the codename “galaga.”
A First for Nothing: Telephoto and Periscope Cameras
For the first time, Nothing phones may feature dedicated zoom cameras. The Phone (3a) is rumored to include a telephoto lens, while the Phone (3a) Plus could take it further with a periscope zoom camera. If true, the Plus model would be the brand’s first-ever phone with a periscope telephoto camera, marking a significant upgrade from the dual-camera setups seen in previous models.
New Features: eSIM Support
Another notable addition to the Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Plus is eSIM support. Users may have the option to use either one physical SIM and one eSIM or two physical SIM cards, offering greater flexibility. This would also be a first for Nothing devices, though the CMF Phone 2 is unlikely to include this feature.
With these upgrades, the Nothing Phone (3a) series is shaping up to offer a significant step forward in both hardware and functionality, continuing to push the brand into the premium smartphone space.
