Recently, Nothing released the stable Nothing OS 2.5.1 update based on Android 14 for Phone (2) users. This addition is first provided to users with Open Beta and will soon be rolled out to other users. The update brings lots of new features in customization and new gestures. new widgets and some additions to the glyph interface.
The update also brings improvements to various core aspects like performance, battery life, and the smoothness of the UI. Now let’s have a look at the performance improvements with Nothing OS 2.5.1 over the Open Beta update.
Nothing Phone (2) performance test after Nothing OS 2.5.1 Update
Nothing Phone (2) comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Chipset, which is based on 4nm TSMC fabrication and is a very powerful and capable processor. It is also equipped with an Adreno 730 GPU, and latest LPDDR5 RAM type, and faster UFS 3.1 Storage.
We performed Geekbench 6 CPU Benchmark test on our Nothing Phone (2) and noticed some improvement in the multi-core score as the score jumped by 43 points when compared to the Open Beta version. While the single core score remained almost same.
The GPU Benchmark got hit by 41 points when compared to the previous version, Nothing OS 2.5 Open beta 2. Thus Geekbench results for CPU are better with the stable version but the GPU scores are not.
We also performed a CPU Throttling test which determines the stability in performance of the processor. It lets us know when the processor throttles when it is pushed hard to its limits. We ran the test for 15 minutes while the previous build showed the CPU throttling to 70% of its maximum performance and the newer 2.5.1 stable version throttled to 74%, although the Phone (2) provided less average GIPS score with Nothing OS 2.5.1 when compared to the Open Beta version, with a difference of almost 12000 points. This suggests that Nothing has worked on improving the throttling performance, but that has affected the performance to some extent. better throttling performance means it can handle CPU-intensive tasks for long periods without dropping the performance.
We also ran an AnTuTu benchmark test to monitor the change in the overall performance of smartphones and here, Phone (2) with Stable Nothing OS 2.5.1 outperformed the previous build with a margin of almost 80000 points. Phone (2) even gets better GPU scores when compared to the previous version.
The tests gave mixed opinions about the Phone (2) performance post and prior to the update, but overall the scores were better with the stable update of Android 14. After the latest update, we have noticed faster animations, app opening speeds, and good performance. Nothing has definitely worked to make Phone (2) a consistent performer with the latest Nothing OS 2.5.1 update based on Android 14.
