Finally, Nothing company has released the Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1 update for Phone (1) users. Nothing has shared a tweet announcing the open beta update is now available for all Phone (1) users. The update information and steps to get involved were shared on the Nothing community website.
A few days ago, Nothing released Nothing OS 2.5.1 stable update for Phone (2) based on Android 14 and announced that Phone (1) will get an Open Beta update before the year’s end. Today they released the update, which features changes across customization, gestures, new widgets, and some other improvements with the Android 14 build. The Nothing OS 2.5 Open Beta 1 also brings December security patch for Phone (1).

Customisation
- Redesigned a joint Home Screen and Lock Screen customisation page and improved the edit wallpaper flow for a more comprehensive view of options.
- New Atmosphere wallpaper effect: Transform your background photo into a dynamic wallpaper that brings motion to colours on your home screen. A seamless transition between your lock and home screens.
- Introduced solid colour wallpapers for a cleaner Home Screen appearance.
- Added a monochrome colour theme in the basic colour section.
Gesture
- Customisable double-press power button to quickly access a chosen feature. Just head to Settings > System > Gestures.
- More Lock Screen shortcut options like: Do Not Disturb, Mute, QR code scanner, video camera.
- Capture screenshots quickly with a three-finger swipe gesture.
- New screenshot editor and menu, allowing for more advanced editing features and quick deletions.
New Widgets
- Pedometer Widget: Track your daily steps directly from your home screen. Set goals and monitor your progress to stay motivated.
- Media Player Widget: Displays the currently playing song. Control your music easily while on-the-move.
- Screen Time Widget: Monitor and manage your daily screen time to maintain a healthy digital lifestyle.
Notes: To use these new widgets, please update your Nothing Launcher and Nothing Widgets app to the latest versions available on the Play Store.
More Improvements
- Added a new Glyph animation for when NFC is being used.
- Improved the experience of Flip to Glyph.
- Optimised the experience of the Weather app and improved the notification of weather alerts.
- Refreshed the back gesture arrow visual to be more in line with Nothing’s style.
- Made it possible to set ringtone and notification sound volumes separately, with an updated volume control interface.
- Updated Quick Settings layout and support to show more devices icons.
- Improved the stability of the camera.
- Enhanced overall system stability for a more reliable and smooth experience.
How to Update
- Ensure that your Nothing Phone (1) is on the latest NOS version Nothing OS 2.0.5
- Download the APK file, and install it from your downoads.
- Go to Settings> System > Update to Beta version.
- Tap “Check for the new version” and follow the steps to get started.
- Share your feedback by going to Settings > System > Feedback or be part of the conversation by joining nothing community.
Since this is a Beta version, there might be a chance that test software might interfere with your data and require a factory reset. We strongly recommend backup all your data before installing the software.
How to Rollback to Nothing OS 2.0.5
- Backup all your data, as the rollback will result in a factory reset, and all unsaved data will be lost.
- Download the rollback package for Nothing OS 2.0.5
- Go to Settings > System> Tap on Update to Beta Version.
- Tap “Import file” and select the previously downloaded package.
- Follow the steps to carry through with the rollback.
You may need to create a folder called ‘Documents’ within Internal Storage if you experience an error when trying to install or rollback.
