Nothing OS Update Cycle for Phone (1) and Phone (2) – Explained

Recently, a lot of Nothing phone users have expressed their doubts regarding the consistency of updates for the Nothing OS, particularly the Phone (1) users. In recent times, many users have expressed concerns about the update scenario stating that the company has forgotten the Phone (1) users and focuses more on its flagship smartphone, the Phone (2) for timely updates. But the truth is actually different.

With the release of Nothing Phone (2), its co-founder and CEO stated that they would be providing security updates once every 2 months for Nothing Phone, and as per the data we have compiled, they have accomplished that promise. Phone (2) launched with Nothing OS 2.0 in July 2023 and just a month after Phone (1) got the OS 2.0 update. Since then, Phone (1) has received all the updates, and the same is true for Phone (2).

Also since the launch of Phone (2), Nothing has been focusing more on the software side and releasing updates much more frequently. Recently, they announced the Nothing OS 2.5 open beta based on Android 14 for Phone (2) users in November, and a lot of Phone (1) users were not happy as they thought they were ‘forgotten’ or ‘neglected’, but a few days ago, Nothing confirmed that Phone (1) will be getting the Open Beta update very soon and already the Closed Beta testing for Phone (1) is going on.

Some Phone (1) users were selected through the discord server for the Closed Beta testing for Nothing OS 2.5 and thus we can expect that open beta to arrive on Phone (1) by the end of 2023.

This all concludes that rather than releasing updates at the same time on both Phones, Nothing prefers to launch it on Phone (2) as it’s their flagship smartphone but it doesn’t mean that Phone (1) users are neglected; they are also provided equal software support just a bit late. We know that most of the top smartphone manufacturers provide updates to all of their smartphones at the same time, but Nothing is comparatively a new brand and thus requires time to match industry standards for the consistent update cycle and monthly security updates.
