A few weeks ago, Nothing CEO and co-founder Carl Pei tweeted about developing its own gallery app and asked people what would be the most important thing to get right while developing the gallery app.
Since then, it’s been all around the community, with everyone discussing the Nothing Gallery app, its features, and its design. We already had a concept by Pyrodox, which he posted on Nothing Discord’s server. The concept is based on the Monochrome theme of Nothing ‘design philosophy along with some red elements and the Basic UI of a gallery app with a Scrollable Album and different categories for camera captures, Videos, Downloads, etc. The top UI part has the count for photos and videos along with some filters to search for images based on date, location, and people.
The concept was just an idea of how the Nothing own Gallery app could be developed, and it had some missing details like the Nothing signature dotted font and UI segregation for different categories.
But recently another concept for Nothing’s Gallery App came into the limelight, it’s from Aman, the one who also created the screen concepts for CMF by Nothing Watch Pro which were also featured in the latest Q3 community update video. This new concept is much more refined and touches on Nothing’s design legacy.
The top of the gallery app has a section for memories written in dotted font with an image covering half the screen in focus. The latter part has some other recent photos and a bottom navigation bar to navigate through photos, search, album, and share sections. The concept also hints at an option to view all images in monochrome and colored through a toggle, something similar to which we also saw in the photo’s widget released with the Nothing OS 2.0.4 update.
It also has some of those red elements in the date slider for image search and the bin on the search page. The Search page has various categories for search with more detailed thumbnails for people, locations, and various memories.
Nothing’s community manager, Rob Godwin also quoted the concept, stating that the Gallery app is a highly requested addition to Nothing OS. Sadly, there are no hints from the company’s software and design teams on when the official gallery app is going to be released, all we know is that it is currently in the development phase, and we might see it next year with Nothing OS 3.0.
