Android users have more freedom to explore different apps, but this flexibility can sometimes expose phones to risks. Recognizing this, Google is introducing a major safety upgrade, especially for apps that are downloaded outside of its official Play Store.
Google is enhancing its Play Protect service by adding real-time scanning of apps at the very core of their code. Now third-party apps will also be scanned rather than just Play Store apps.
When you download an app from a source outside the Play Store, Google offers a safety check. The app’s core details are quickly sent to Play Protect’s main system to be thoroughly checked. This isn’t just to catch known dangers but also new ones that might be emerging.
When you try to install the app popup message will displayed on the screen. You can pick between ‘Scan App’ and ‘Don’t Install App’. If you opt for the scan and Google finds something risky, you will get a clear reason why the app may not be a good choice.
At the moment, this security feature is being introduced in India. However, plans are in place to bring it to users in other parts of the world soon.
Google’s dedication to safety is not new. The tech giant already checks over 125 billion apps daily through the Play Store. If they find any app that’s not safe, they have the power to turn it off completely.
