To maintain your smartphone’s battery health, it’s recommended to charge it to around 80% and unplug it. However, manually doing this can be a hassle. That’s why many phone manufacturers offer a feature to limit the charging capacity to 80%. But until now, Pixel phones haven’t had this option. That’s about to change as Google is finally rolling out the long-awaited charging limit feature for Pixel users.
The feature was first spotted in Android 15 QPR1. A new “Limit to 80%” option appears in Settings > Battery > Charging optimization, alongside the regular Adaptive Charging feature. Unfortunately, this feature didn’t make it to the stable version of Android 15, which was released to Pixel phones last month.
There’s piece of good news that some users have already seen the feature on the stable Android 15 AP3A.241105.007 build. A Telegram user named @SlimRock shared screenshots of it with Android Authority. However, the feature hasn’t appeared on all devices, including Android Authority’s Pixel 8 Pro or even in the latest builds tested by others. It seems like the rollout might be gradual.
It’s surprising that Pixel phones are only just getting this feature, as nearly every other smartphone brand already offers it. For instance, OnePlus introduced “Optimized Charging” back in 2020, which is now called the Charging Limit feature in OxygenOS 15.
Realme added the feature with the Wise Charging option in Realme UI 4.0 earlier this year. Samsung followed suit with the “Battery Protection” feature in OneUI 6.1, and Motorola has been offering it for years under the name “Overcharge Protection.”
It’s puzzling that Google, the creator of Android, is late to offer this basic feature, especially when even Apple introduced a “Charge Limit” option with the iPhone 15. While it’s true that Pixels don’t have super-fast charging speeds, this simple feature can help all users protect their battery health in the long run.
