Google drops support of Calendar app for devices running Android 7.1 and below

Android devices are known for having comparatively longer app support. But wait, that’s not unlimited, though. The users of Android devices running on or below Android 7 might have to upgrade their devices soon. Google previously ended up supporting the Chrome browser for these devices, and now they have dropped support for the Calendar app as well.

Google Calendar App Support

Google has made an official announcement recently, declaring that the Google Calendar app will no more support devices running Android version 7.1 or below. They haven’t pointed out any exact reason why they had to discontinue support for the Calendar app.

This decision is believed to be because of safety reasons, as the older Android versions have a higher risk of data leaks and hacking. The most recent version of the Google Calendar app (v2023.46.0-581792699-release) includes a new flag called “UnsupportedOperatingSystem__enabled,” which is used to display a message to users running unsupported operating systems.

This flag contains a specific message informing users that their device must be updated to Android 8 (Oreo) or higher in order to continue using Google Calendar.
