Google Confirms Early Launch for Android 16 with Follow-Up Release in 2025

At the start of this month, rumors circulated that Google might release Android 16 earlier than previous versions. Yesterday, Google has officially confirmed the news.

The finalized version of Android 16 will be released in the second quarter of next year 2025, meaning it could arrive anytime between April and June. According to Google, this shift aims to “better align with the schedule of device launches” across the Android ecosystem.

Android 16 Release Timeline

Earlier this year, Google launched the Pixel 9 series in August with Android 14, despite already working on Android 15. The Android 15 update was only made available a few weeks ago. If Google meets its goal of releasing Android 16 before June ends, then Pixel 10 devices will feature it from the start. Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices, expected in July, could also arrive with Android 16 pre-installed.

Additionally, Google has announced there will be a second Android release in 2025, expected between October and December. This release, however, will be a “minor update” focused on feature additions, optimizations, and bug fixes for Android 16. This smaller update could be labeled as Android 16.1 and should arrive by late next year.
