The Apple company in the latest “Scary fast” event announced the much-anticipated M3 chips. Alongside new MacBooks, the tech giant has unveiled an updated 24″ iMac, featuring the new M3 chip, expanded memory options, and advanced ray tracing capabilities.
The new M3 iMac maintains a design echoing its M1 predecessor, yet it has speeds up to twice as fast as the M1 model. Compared to older iMacs that use Intel chips, the new M3 iMac is much faster. It is about 2.5 times faster than larger 27-inch Intel iMac and four times quicker than smaller 21.5-inch Intel iMac. This makes the M3 iMac more powerful and efficient than before.
Running on macOS Sonoma, the M3 iMac comes in various configurations to meet user needs. The 8-core GPU version offers 8GB, 16GB, and 24GB RAM options paired with storage choices ranging from 256GB to 1TB SSD. For those who are looking for more power, the 10-core GPU model not only boosts up to 2TB storage but starts with a 512GB base.
Connectivity-wise, the 8-core model includes two Thunderbolt 3/USB 4 ports. The more powerful 10-core variant adds two USB-3 ports. The 8-core GPU iMac comes in blue, green, pink, and silver colors. The 10-core model is available in these colors plus yellow, orange, and purple. Each model comes with accessories and wallpapers matching its color.
The M3 iMac isn’t just about power it also offers improved connectivity with Wi-Fi 6E for better download speeds and Bluetooth 5.3 for seamless integration with the latest devices. The 10-core model includes Gigabit Ethernet, an option also configurable for the 8-core variant.
The 24″ 4.5K Retina Display delivers stunning visuals with 4,480×2,250 pixels resolution and brightness of 500 nits. Audio is equally impressive with six-speaker system supporting Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos. For calls and recordings, Apple has included 1080p FaceTime camera and three-mic array of studio quality.
In an effort to support sustainability, Apple has constructed the M3 iMac with 100% recycled aluminum in its stand, along with using recycled materials for rare earth magnets and tin soldering in various PCBs. The gold plating also uses recycled materials which is the first for the iMac line.
The 8-core GPU M3 iMac starts at $1,299 (1,34,900 INR), and the price for the 10-core model begins at $1,499 (1,54,900 INR). These models are currently available for order on Apple’s official website across 27 countries, with shipping set to start on November 7.
